Terrible People is a party game, not a data business. This page says what we keep, what we do not, and why.

What we do not collect

You do not sign up to play, and we do not collect your name, email address, or anything else that identifies you. There are no analytics and no ads.

What stays in your browser

In a game on one phone, the names you type, the game in progress with its deck, and whether you confirmed the table is all adults when turning the heat on are kept in the tab's own session storage, so a refresh does not end the game. Nothing leaves your device, and closing the tab clears all of it.

Online games

When someone hosts a game, the room lives on our hosting provider's servers for as long as the game does: the code, the names the players typed, the cards, and the scores. Each phone keeps only its own seat in the tab's session storage. Nothing else is collected, and no one can see a room without its code.

A room is deleted when the last player leaves, when nobody has been in it for ten minutes, and in any case two hours after it was made. There is no history: once a room is gone, nothing of it remains.

The AI cards

Every game's topic cards are written by an AI when the game starts, and each round's player cards are written as answers to that round's topic. A request carries only card text and the deck's settings: how many cards of which kind, the category, the heat, a short list of recent cards to avoid repeating, and the topic the answers are for. It carries no names and nothing you typed.

Depending on how the site is configured, the model runs on a machine of ours or is an outside AI service (xAI or OpenAI) that receives only that card text. Nothing about the request is stored by this site.
